Confirmation
Through the Sacrament of Confirmation, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit.
This sacrament was initially joined with Baptism. Though the two sacraments continue to be celebrated together in the Eastern church, the Western church has long thought of Confirmation as a separate sacrament bestowing an additional strengthening in the Spirit and enabling one to be a more faithful witness or defender of the faith.
If celebrated as a sacrament distinct from Baptism, Confirmation is bestowed by a bishop or priest, and the individual receiving the sacrament should have a sponsor (or "godparent") who might help to ensure that s/he behaves as a true witness of Christ. Fortunately, for the celebration of this sacrament, the American Catholic Church does not possess many of the strictures and requirements demanded by other Catholic churches, which can often include a preparation period of nine months to two years, the completion of community service hours, participation in classes & retreats, etc.
At Holy Family, we host a communal celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation twice each year. To register for the sacrament of Confirmation, please visit our parish office (9322 FM 812, 78719). Our parish office is always open on Sundays, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
